Kale is considered quite the super food these days, being rather “in” as a healthy ingredient. It is considered to be one of the most healthy foods. It is full of antioxidants, and contains nutrients that appear to to protect against various forms of cancer. It is also thought to help with eye health, with protection against retinal detachment and age-related macular degeneration. Kale is also full of Vtamin-K, which promotes bone formation and strengthening. Good amounts of vitamin-K levels in the diet is further thought to help limit neuronal damage in the brain and it has a role in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Kale also is rich in Vitamin C, a number of B Vitamins, and minerals such as copper, calcium, sodium, potassium, iron, manganese, and phosphorus. Meanwhile it is a low calorie food.
To use Kale in smoothies, simply add the leaves to the blend. Kale tends to be quite bitter, and some prefer to add a sweetener to smoothies that contain it. You can easily add some honey, banana, dates, Agave, or Stevia to sweeten things up.
