About the Avocolada Smoothie

The Avocolada Smoothie is a unique blend of avocados, pineapples, spinach, coconut, and lime, creating a perfect balance of creamy texture and tropical flavors. Each of these ingredients not only contributes to the delicious taste but also brings its own set of nutritional benefits.

The avocolada shake can be made in any blender. If making it in a Nutribullet, fill liquid to the fill line instead of measuring it.

Homemade Avocolada Smoothie Recipe

Key Ingredients

  1. Avocado: Originating from south-central Mexico, avocados are known for their creamy texture and rich, nutty flavor. They are a great source of healthy monounsaturated fats, fiber, potassium, and vitamins C, E, and K. When avocado is used in a smoothie, it leads to a rich creamy texture that I find simply amazing.
  2. Pineapple: Native to South America, pineapples are sweet, juicy, and packed with vitamin C, manganese, and digestive enzymes called bromelain, which aid in digestion. Pineapple adds sweetness and a nice citrus and tropical tang to the recipe.
  3. Spinach and or Kale: I formulated this recipe with just spinach. Spinach is full of nutrients, including iron, calcium, vitamins A, C, and K, and several antioxidants. I like to add spinach to smoothie recipes whenever appropriate because it is such a  great way to get in a serving of leafy green vegetables.  You can also use kale in this recipe if desired (Tropical cafe smoothies uses both spinach and kale).
  4. Coconut Water: Coconut water adds a tropical flavor and provides electrolytes, particularly potassium. If you want a really, really creamy smoothie or shake, you can use coconut milk, but that will raise the calorie quite a bit.
  5. Lime: A citrus fruit that is an excellent source of vitamin C and adds a refreshing zest to the smoothie.
  6. Sweetener of Choice: Personally, I leave sweeteners out of my smoothies when possible, but if you want to add something, I suggest honey or agave to taste.

Serving Suggestions

  1. Garnish with Tropical Flavors: Garnish your smoothie with a slice of lime, a sprinkle of coconut flakes, or a small wedge of pineapple.
  2. Smoothie Bowls: Pour the smoothie into a bowl and top with sliced fruits, nuts, and seeds for a filling and nutritious meal.
  3. Layered Smoothie: Create a visually appealing drink by layering the Avocolada smoothie with a berry smoothie, achieving a colorful and nutrient-dense treat.

In sum, this homemade Avocolada Smoothie is a healthy, nutrient-packed shake that is perfect for any time of the day. Whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast, a post-workout snack, or a healthy dessert, this smoothie is an excellent choice.
