Green Protein Machine Nutribullet Blast

Typically, greens drinks don’t pack a lot of protein. But if you want to get your greens and a high-protein meal or snack, this green smoothie will deliver. The spinach is loaded with iron, Vitmain A (almost 30% of your RDA) and Vitamin C and the apple adds both fiber and sweetness.

The protein comes from the addition of greek yogurt and milk (substitute with soy or almond milk as desired). It also give the green drink a bit of smoothness to even out the grittiness that spinach sometime delivers.

Want even more protein? Toss in a handful of unsalted almonds! That will up your calorie count, but will also help keep you feeling full.

This green drink smoothie includes spinach, yet adds greek yogurt for protein.
  • 1 cup baby spinach leaves
  • 1 medium firm apple, such as Granny Smith or Pink Lady, seeds removed and skin intact
  • 4 thin slices of fresh lime, with skin
  • 1 6-ounce container of plain Greek yogurt
  • Skim Milk to the fill line
  1. Place all ingredients into the NutriBullet and blend until smooth.

  1. Do you know the approx. Carbs this has?
    I try to stay low carb (Under 30g) and low sugar, any recommendations for that?

    • Hmmm, looks like my author for this one left that info out! Looking it up, the carbs in this would be around 35-40 grams because the apple is going to be high carb. But carbs from fruit are often not nearly as worrisome as carbs from grains. You can cut it down some by using something like avocado instead for part of the apple. Also you could cut 6-8 grams by not using yogurt, but I think that makes the flavor much better in this one. The best truly low carb smoothies are those with nearly all veggies (still have carbs, but less than fruit) or that focus on yogurt, nuts, and peanut butter (but those have higher calories).
